A Message from Pastor Matt

rotary phoneQuick Story:  Several years ago, I was serving a church and a long-time member just stopped coming to church.   If you knew her, you knew it was strange for her to miss three weeks in a row.  So, after she missed the fourth Sunday, I called to check in on her.   “I can take a hint,” she said, “people don’t want me at that church anymore.”   Turns out there was a weekly prayer chain that had a phone tree that called each other every Wednesday.    I explained that I did not even know about the said prayer chain, but I would figure out what was happening.   Several hours later, I discovered the breakdown was at the top, no one was getting the phone calls and everyone was upset at each other.  The prayer chain leader was sick and neglected to pass on her responsibility.

We live in a digital age and what is supposed to be a faster, more effective form of communication can sometimes become a confusing, unreliable form of communication.    While we are switching much of our communication to electronic communication, we know that sometimes things can get lost for lots of reasons  (junk mail filters, accidental deletions, wrong e-mail address, etc).    The point is this, I need your help in making sure communication is happening and letting me know when there is a breakdown.  Don’t wait a month say that you did not get the e-mail or your name is not on the list or you have not been receiving the newsletter.

Case in point:   Everyone at church should have received an invitation to our monthly cottage meetings.   We divided the tasks among our cottage meeting hosts.   If you did not receive an invitation, that means there was a breakdown in communication for some reason (our e-mail addresses could be wrong, junk mail filters, wrong phone number, etc).  Everyone should have received an invitation.  We have an upcoming meeting this Sunday at 2 PM in various homes.   If you have not received an invitation, please join my group at Disciples House.

Also, this Sunday is Folk Musician Sunday with kids in church.   We are talking about loving our neighbor.  It should be a great Sunday!

Peace,

Matt
